Things to do in Grand Lake, Colorado
Grand Lake sits around 8,300 feet on the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. Summer centers on trails, boating, and fishing; winter shifts the priority to snowmobiles, skis, snowshoes, and frozen-lake activities.

Adams Falls
Adams Falls is an easy 0.8-mile out-and-back from the East Inlet Trailhead. The short route reaches a 55-foot waterfall and is the first trail choice for families with children.
East Inlet Trail
Beyond Adams Falls, the East Inlet Trail reaches a series of longer-distance destinations. Lone Pine Lake is at 5.5 miles, Lake Verna at 6.9 miles, and Spirit Lake at 8 miles, so choose the turnaround point before starting.
Cascade Falls
The route to Cascade Falls begins at the North Inlet Trailhead. This moderate hike covers a total of 6.8 miles out and back from the trailhead.
Timber Lake Trail
Ten and two-tenths miles make Timber Lake Trail a challenging, full-day commitment. Groups that have not adjusted to the elevation should begin with one of the shorter trail options.
Trail Ridge Road

Hilltop Boating Site
Hilltop Boating Site, within the town of Grand Lake, serves portable non-motorized watercraft only. Mussel inspection is required, overnight camping is prohibited, and trailered motorboats must use Green Ridge, Stillwater, or Sunset Point instead.
Fishing
The waters surrounding Grand Lake hold trout, kokanee salmon, and bass. Anglers need a Colorado fishing license before casting a line on any of these waters.
Snowmobiling
More than 130 miles of snowmobile trails surround Grand Lake, including 80 groomed miles. Known as the Snowmobile Capital of Colorado, the town permits snowmobiles on its streets for direct trail access from lodging; rentals are available downtown.

Thirty-five kilometers of Nordic ski, snowshoe, and dog-friendly terrain are groomed daily for classic and skate skiing. The Grand Lake Nordic Center offers passes, lessons, and rentals, plus a four-kilometer dog loop where off-leash dogs must be under voice control.
Snowshoeing
Rocky Mountain National Park trails remain accessible from the western entrance throughout winter. Snowshoeing on those routes provides a quieter winter option than the snowmobile trails around Grand Lake.
Ice fishing
Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake offer ice fishing once the lakes are frozen. Conditions determine whether either lake is suitable on a given day, so check before heading out.
Ice skating
