Christmas in Branson opens before Thanksgiving and runs into the new year, and the two things to book first are the cabin and the Sight & Sound seats, in that order. Nearly everything else has more capacity than demand, even in the last week of December. When is Christmas in Branson?
The town calls its season Ozark Mountain Christmas, and it runs November 1 through January 7. The lights, the shows and the drive-throughs switch on in the first week of November, and Silver Dollar City's An Old Time Christmas runs November 7 through January 2 inside that window.
The quiet stretch is the two weeks after the park opens on November 7, when everything is running and far fewer people share it. Thanksgiving weekend and December 19 through New Year's Eve are the crowded ones. If you can choose, come the week after Thanksgiving: full lights, cold enough to feel like Christmas, and a park that is open five days out of seven. What to book first, and how far ahead
Book the cabin first, six months to a year ahead for a large house, then the show seats, then the park tickets, because each step has less capacity than the one after it. Every price on this page is the operator's posted rate in September 2026, before tax.

- Sight & Sound. It is the one Branson show people plan a trip around, so buy the seats the day you book the house.
- Silver Dollar City tickets, 24 hours before you go. Buying earlier gains nothing, and waiting lets the park's calendar pick your day.
Silver Dollar City at Christmas, and which day to go
Go on a Thursday or a Monday and arrive at the 1 o'clock opening: the shops and shows in daylight, the lights from dusk to close, and the smallest crowd of the week. Saturday buys three extra hours and costs you the parking lot and every line in the park.
Here is the calendar behind that. The park runs Thursday through Monday until December 19 and closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, except the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Saturdays run 11 in the morning to 10 at night; every other day opens at 1 and closes at 9, or 10 on Fridays from December onward. Thanksgiving Day is a short 4 to 10 evening, and the Friday after it keeps Saturday hours. From December 20 the park is open daily, closes for December 24 and 25, and then runs daily until it closes for the year.
What you are there for is 6.5 million lights, 1.5 million of them on Christmas in Midtown's towers and light tunnels, an 8-story animated tree on Town Square, a new parade this year called Stars, Lights & Christmas Nights, and A Dickens' Christmas Carol in its 25th season, which is the show to plan the afternoon around.
Tickets are $85 for one day bought online at least 24 hours ahead on the days the park discounts, $95 for any operating day of the season, and $20 more for a second day; ages 3 and under are free. That second day is the best value on the list: one for daylight, one for the lights. The drive is about 13 minutes from Hilltop House or Antler Ridge and about 20 from Sundowner Lodge.
The light drives, and which one to pick
Take the zoo with kids under 8 and the Trail of Lights with everyone else, and one drive is enough. These are the two with dates and prices posted for 2026.
- Trail of Lights at Shepherd of the Hills. The first week of November through January 2, dusk to 10 Sunday through Thursday and 11 on Friday and Saturday. $25 to $30 per car and $50 for a van of 8 to 15, paid at the gate in the Inspiration Tower lot on 76. It is the original, more than 35 years in.
- Let There Be Lights at Promised Land Zoo. Every night from November 1 through January 4, 5 to 11, two miles of lights through the zoo for $30 per car up to 6 people and $45 for 7 or more, with the petting zoo included.
At the zoo the animals are the point and the lights are the bonus. Shepherd of the Hills also runs a walk-through, the North Pole Adventure, November 13 through December 27, with a hayride through part of the Trail.
For lights on foot, Branson Landing: the tree, the fountain show with its music and fire, free every evening, and across Lake Taneycomo the Adoration Scene, a 28-foot nativity built in 1949.
Which Christmas show, if you only see one
If your group sees one show, make it Miracle of Christmas at Sight & Sound; the other two are for particular groups.
- Miracle of Christmas at Sight & Sound. November 3 through December 31, 2 hours and 20 minutes, $59 to $79 for ages 13 and up and $34 for ages 2 to 12. The nativity story with live animals, camels included.
- Dolly Parton's Stampede. Daily from October 29 through January 2, dinner included, 32 horses and a North Pole against South Pole contest the crowd votes on. The right call with small children: the noise is the point and dinner is handled.
- The Showboat Branson Belle Christmas cruise. November 6 through December 23, dinner and a show on Table Rock Lake, $69 to $110 for ages 12 and up and $49 to $80 for ages 4 to 11. The slow evening, and the one to book for grandparents.
Christmas weather in Branson, and what to pack
Pack layers rather than one heavy coat, waterproof shoes, and a swimsuit, because normal highs, measured at Springfield, fall from about 51°F at the start of December to 44°F by the end, lows drop from 31°F to 25°F, and about 1.9 inches of snow falls on average by month's end. Each of our three communities keeps an indoor pool open through the winter, and the walk back to the car at 9 at night is the coldest part of any day.
Which of our cabins fits a Christmas trip
Sundowner Lodge is the one for the whole extended family: 27 guests across 10 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms in Wilderness Mountain, with a lower-level game room and movie room, an 8-person hot tub, and a 6-person barrel sauna outside. It sits about 40 minutes from the Landing, so plan the downtown night as its own outing.
Hilltop House sleeps 16 across 5 bedrooms and six and a half bathrooms in Chateau Mountain North, about 10 minutes from the Landing, with a loft game room, two fireplaces, and room for four cars in the driveway. Two or three families who want to be close to everything land here.
Antler Ridge sleeps 12 across 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms on a single level, which is rare in this market and the reason grandparents and toddlers do well there. The primary bedroom has its own fireplace, the patio hot tub looks west over the water, and the Landing is the same 10 minutes away.
